Personal Statement about APHA-SA:
I was introduced to APHA and the Student Assembly through my mentor in my masters program. With his urging, I submitted my first abstract to the annual meeting, beginning my involvement within the organization. I visited the Student Assembly functions that year, absorbing all I could. I will have to admit, I was overwhelmed! I began volunteering on committees, to contribute what I could to the organization. My first real contribution was working on the First Annual Student Meeting in 2005 where I served on the planning committee. I later applied for Co-Chair of the Opportunities Committee for the main purpose of providing as many resources to students as possible. Through networking and involvement in my section, I was also afforded the opportunity to be a Student Liaison for the PHEHP section and to serve on the Student Awards Committee for this section. While I was overwhelmed at first, APHA has opened there arms and welcomed my involvement. I consider myself very lucky to have been provided numerous opportunities, with hopes of taking advantage of many more that come my way!
